If you are fond of reggae music, this contest can be really inspiring. The competition is open to everyone who can use Reggae Music as starting point for a social communication poster. You can explore topics around all genres of the reggae music but your posters should incorporate the theme for 2016: “Toward a Reggae Hall of Fame, Celebrating Great Jamaican Music.”

IBA (Infected by Art) is an annual book design contest which connects artists to a global audience. The submission and viewing is online and open to the public. If you are working in the genre of the imaginative realism (Sci-Fi, Fantasy or Horror) you can submit your best artwork. Accepted media are oil/acrylic, pen/ink and digital/Photoshop. There are five categories to choose from:

Artwork must be created in the last 18 months and artists can submit up to 10 works.

RWS Contemporary Watercolour Competition 2017

The Royal Watercolour Society holds its annual international competition to encourage innovation and experimentation in watercolour painting, covering work on paper in watercolour, acrylic, gouache, pen & ink and watercolour mixed media.
You can submit a maximum of six paintings and these have to be created within the last four years before submission and must be original work.
Deadline: January 16, 2017
Entry Fee: 14 GBP (~ 18 USD) – Students can submit up to 3 works for 5 GBP (~ 6 USD)
Eligibility: Open to all artists globally except for RWS Members
Prize: Successful entrants will be notified promptly after the judging to allow them to frame and deliver their original paintings for an exhibition (3 – 15 March 2017) taking place at Bankside Gallery, next to Tate Modern, in the heart of London’s cultural quarter.

Edelvives International Prize For Picture Books 2017

The Edelvives Publishing Group holds its 6th Edelvives International Picture Book Awards. Submitted works must be picture books in which the story is told through images and text, each complementing each other. Important is the fact that the prize will be awarded not to the finished work but to the best publishing project.
Deadline: December 20, 2016
Entry Fee: No entry fee
Eligibility: Open to all writers and illustrators of any nationality who can submit projects in English, Spanish or French. Must be of legal age.
The prize will be worth 9.000 Euro (approx. 10,120 USD). This prize money shall be considered part of the authors’ royalties, and it will be paid when the authors deliver the finished work for printing.
This award is to be divided between the illustrator and author, with a 70/30 split.

The Book Illustration Competition 2017

This competition is dedicated to identifying and promotion new talents in illustration and is held by the unique partnership between House of Illustration and The Folio Society.
Participants are asked to submit three illustrations and a binding design for a book chosen by The Folio Society. The book this is year is Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Reading the book is strongly recommended so the story can be understood. Another read might be need to select the scenes you want to illustrate.
Deadline: January 16, 2017
Entry Fee: 25 GBP (~ 33 USD) / 15 GBP (~ 20 USD) for students
Eligibility: Open globally to illustrators over the age of 18, both students and professional. (Not previously published by The Folio Society)
The winner receives a highly sought-after commission, worth 5,000 GBP (approx. 6,630 USD), to complete a total of nine illustrations and a binding design for the book, which is then published by The Folio Society. Five runners each receive 500 GBP (approx. 660 USD) cash.
Three prizes of the six are awarded to student entries.

Fumetto International Comix Competition 2017

Fumetto International Comix Festival Lucerne holds a competition each year to give the creators of comics the opportunity to compare and present their work and exchange views with the others. The completion is one of the largest and most important in Europe.
The theme for 2017 is “Worlds” and there are three categories to enter:
• 18 years or older
• 13 to 17 years
• up to 12 years of age
Deadline: January 2, 2017
Entry Fee: No entry fee
Eligibility: Open to anyone worldwide
Fumetto will award three prizes in each category. There will also be a prize for the best scenario, regardless of the categories. The festival’s visitors will be able to vote for the peoples choice award. The winners will receive cash prizes totalling CHF 5000 (approx. 5,095 USD) and goods to the same value.
Moreover, forty to fifty comics will be nominated by the jury for the exhibition during the festival in Lucerne (Switzerland) on 1-9 April, 2017.

International Illustrated Silent Book Contest 2017

The International Organization of Book Towns and the town of Mulazzo hold the third edition of the international Silent Book Contest which is specifically dedicated to the illustrated books without words. If you are good at telling stories with powerful illustrations and no words, you might want to enter this competition.
Deadline: January 31, 2017
Entry Fee: 50 Euro (~ 55 USD)
Eligibility: Open globally to all illustrators over the age of 18 by December 31st 2016.
An international Jury will select from five to ten finalists to be announced at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2017.
The author of the book project selected as winner will receive an award of 4.500 Euro (approx. 4,970 USD) as advance against royalties and a publishing agreement according to international standards. The winning book project will be published by Carthusia Edizioni.
The award ceremony will be held in August 2017 at Montereggio di Mulazzo, Italy.

ZEISS Photography Award 2017

The World Photography Organization and Zeiss are launching their second edition of the Zeiss Photography Award. The theme of this year is Meaningful places. Photographers should look past the ordinary to capture the extraordinary aspects of the world we live in, by documenting the importance of one or several places that are significant to each other.
The successful entry should include a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 images. Particular attention should be paid to the edit of the work. Not required is a brief description of the place and the inspiration.
Deadline: February 7, 2017
Entry Fee: No entry fee
Eligibility: Open to all photographers over the age of 18.
Prize: One winning photographer will be given a free choice of ZEISS camera lenses worth 12,000 Euro (approx. 13,165 USD) in addition to 3,000 Euro travel expenses to complete a photography project of their choice in the location of their choice.
